Recommended for mandrels .375" (9.5mm) and less. These proprietary steels are typically 0.5% to 1.0% carbon, 0.093% to 1.97% chromium, 0.2% vanadium and are austenitized at 1550 degrees with a grain size of 9.
LGC 50 - Heat treated and de-gassed HRc 48-55
LGC 100 - Heat treated and de-gassed HRc 52-62
All mandrels are heat treated, oil quenched and tempered at LYNCO.
Martensitic transformation after temper is at 80% with a total transformation to 100% after 5-10 cycles in production.
Chromemoly steels (modified to LYNCO specifications), are typically used in mandrels with diameters of .375" (9.5mm) to 1.000" (25.4mm).
LGC 30 - Aircraft quality steel HRc 32-36
LGC 40 - Heat treated and de-gassed HRc 38-42
LGC OT - Heat treated, oil tempered HRc 44-48
Tubing, normally used in mandrels over 1.5" (38mm), may be following materials.
ASTM A513 - DOM (drawn over mandrel-steel).
ASTM A519 - CDSM (cold drawn seamless material) - steel
6061-T6511 - Extruded aluminum tubing - tensile - 38 KSI
6061-T6 - Drawn aluminum tubing - tensile - 45KSI

SURFACE COATINGS
Steel mandrels can be hard chrome plated in diameters up to 20" (508mm) and lengths up to 38' (11.6 meters).
Hard chrome plate: MIL SPEC QQC-320 Class II IAW - LGC 25/5
Aluminum mandrels can be hard anodized in diamteres up to 40" (1 meter) and lengths up to 40' (12 meters).
Hard anodizing: MIIL-A-8625 (F) TYPE III CLASS 1 LGC 11/10 UNSEALED.
SURFACE FINISHES
Standard finish on mandrels is Ra 16. Surface finish is dependent on diameter and if the mandrel is ground or turned. Large turned parts
may have finish up to Ra 24. Smaller diameter may have a finer finish from grinding and polishing.
MICRO POLISHING IS AVAILABLE.
