CARE & MAINTAINANCE OF MANDRELS

When new mandrels are received from LYNCO, special care must be taken to insure that they are unpacked carefully so as not to scratch or bend.

Mandrels should be wiped clean with a cleaner or solvant (i.e., Acetone or MEK), coated with mold release and pre-cycled.

We recommend the following procedure for pre-cycling (seasoning):

  1. Wipe, spray, or brush on mold release,
  2. Heat at 250 degrees fahrenheit for 1-2 hours,
  3. Repeat.

Mandrel Cleaning

Mandrels should be shecked periodiacally for build-up of resin. This build-up is most noticeable when extracting the mandrel from the blank. When the mandrel does not extract freely, it must be cleaned and more release applied. The cleaned mandrel can go directly back to production and does not have to be pre-cycled.
